2009 Millersville Parade
The ELCO High School Raider Band won second place
in the 2009 Millersville Parade! Congratulations!
The Millersville Community Parade was started in 1997 by a group of volunteers dedicated to improving relationships between the Borough of Millersville, Millersville University, Manor Township and surrounding communities. Since then, the Millersville Community Parade has quickly evolved into one of Lancaster County's largest and most dynamic parades.
The 2009 parade theme, Myths, Fables and Fairy Tales, will showcase the power of great and timeless writing. From Aesop's fables, discover the origins of fairy tales, to the complete works of Ovid or Homer or folk and fairy tales from around the world. The world is full of mystery and magic, and people have tried to explain the unexplainable since time began through stories --- legends, mythologies, fables, folklore and fairy tales. Here, our 2009 parade can explore those realms, whether delving deep into mystery or just spinning a good yarn. From Puss 'N Boots to Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Hansel and Gretel, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Robin Hood, King Arthur, ghost stories, classical Greek and Roman, Narnia, One Thousand and One Nights (Arabian Nights), The Emperor's New Clothes, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Harry Potter and Grimm's Fairy Tales...for "once upon a time" the 2009 Millersville Community Parade entry opportunities are endless.
Parade entries range from Philadelphia Mummers in "full-plume" to handmade floats by area children's groups, the Millersville University Marauder Marching Band, the Penn Manor High School Marching Unit, the ELCO High School Marching Band, and other local bands. The Millersville Community Parade Committee works hard to bring high quality bands to the
parade each year from as far away as Baltimore and New York City. With antique cars,
music, dancing, animals, floats and clowns, to name just a few of the many things entered
each year, the Millersville Community Parade has something for every family to enjoy.
The Millersville Community Parade is made possible by the help of nearly 100 area volunteers
as well as thousands of dollars in financial contributions from Millersville area businesses, Millersville University and the MU Alumni Association. The Millersville Community Parade was honored to receive a CASE Circle of Excellence award for special event programming.
